Candelaria is a spiritual centre belonging to the Canary Islands. According to legend, the virgin was dragged by Candelaria, which led to Christianity spreading to the natives of the valley.

Today, Candelaria offers some very good restaurants and cafes located around the main square and along the promenade in Punta Larga. There are many shops and supermarkets, a small port and beaches. It is not a typical tourist area but it is very Canarian and traditional.
